Aug is historically high volatile month…not necessarily it repeats every year. Last few years have not been good.. Not sure if Turkey can impact anymore the Friday’s show

Is it like the odds of VXX falling in the last 2 days is much higher than any other time…so shorting yesterday or today would have been better days…it sounds very complex understand

Oh ok..Thank you…so the majority of ETP matters. I wondered the m1 doesnt move as close/high as Spot Vix when M1 is on its first day. With that i thought its less risky to short VXX on the start of m1. Thank you for correcting

It’s more risky in terms of if an anomalistic event occurs, it would cause the greatest damage at the beginning of a monthly cycle, than later in the monthly futures cycle. Key term is anomalistic, as the probability is quite low.

@seth-golden, On the same subject, Do you think Short VXX is more riskier in the begining of the M1or. the tail end…the same on ZIV too…

It would depend on the current state of term structure. But in general your risk would be greater with initiating a position at the beginning of the futures contract as the ETP holds the vast majority of its AUM in the m1 during the onset of the contract month. So if a Feb 5 event occurred on day 1 of the AUM holding the m1s would be far worse…[Read more]

@VolGuru, All great points…VXX is definitely more riskier…few other points to consider are ZIVs volume would be around 75K to 150K..and more than likely it may not have Pre Market/Extended Trading volume (but few exceptions though)…

Can one please advise the best brokerages to trade sell short VXX and sell short VXZ..(in terms of short fee, availability and margin requirements please)… Until Feb 5th Fidelity was allowing all, now VXZ is always not available, SVXY/ZIV are banned… Thank you

The most divergence has occured on Feb 6th when xiv down 80%, VXX up by some 30% but UVXY was up by 15% or so…i could be wrong but atleast it did not go up by 60% (when VXX went up by 30%)… Once this has taken place everything looks uncorrelated. Exactly David….market is such a joke now…futures were up like 300…then slowly went down as much as 500 and suddenly it realizes its Friday happy hour a& goes up by 300…..VXX was very much down..never was up from previous day that was stunning…
